In Gradelink, Grade Scales perform two very important tasks:

  1. First, they specify what grades a student can receive for the work they perform in a Class. For example, the Standard Grade Scale specifies that students can receives grades such as an A+, A, A-, and so on.
  2. Second, they allow one type of grade to be converted into another type of grade. For example, the Standard Grade Scale defines any numerical grade between 93.0% and 96.99% as being equivalent to an "A". This is important because many schools display grades in different formats depending on the context. For a Progress Report Letter Grades may be appropriate, while on a Transcript Numerical Grades may be necessary.

Gradelink provides several built-in grade scales, which you can read about here. Additionally, Administrators can create their own custom grade scales in order to better meet the unique needs of their schools. For more information about creating a grade scale, please click here.

Not every class requires a grade scale. For example, School Attendance classes and classes that use the "Sports" class type won't even allow you to assign a grade scale. For more information about class types, please click here.
