Grade Point Average (GPA) is a widely used method for measuring academic achievement. It is based on the assumption that individual classes are worth a varying level of 'points' depending on the level of achievement for each student.

In Gradelink, GPA is an optional setting that can be enabled or disabled based on the unique needs of your school.

GPA is implemented in the following way:

Step 1: Set up a Grade Scale

GPA starts with the grade scale.

Each grade in the grade scale is assigned a GPA Value. For example, in the **Standard grade scale, which is built-in to Gradelink, an "A" has a GPA Value of 4.00. In addition to the **Standard grade scale, Gradelink includes a second GPA-compatible grade scaled called **Honors. However, feel free to create your own grade scale based on your own unique needs.

Note: Every grade on the grade scale must have a GPA Value, otherwise GPA will not be calculated properly.

Step 2: Assign the Grade Scale to a Class

Once the grade scale is ready, it must be assigned to a class. Once the class has a grade scale assigned to it, the Teacher may create and grade assignments as usual.

Note: Not every class contributes towards the GPA. For more information, please click here.

Step 3: GPA Calculation

As students complete various assignments, they will generate an overall class grade. When the academic term ends, this class grade is converted into 'grade points', which are then multiplied by the number of units/credits the class was worth. This value is then added to the grade points from other classes and divided by the total number of units/credits attempted.
