The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) allows eligible students to attend participating private schools in grades four-year-old kindergarten (K4) to 12. These students are referred to as "Choice" students, and participating schools are referred to as "Choice" schools.

Participating schools must use one of three Private School Choice Programs: the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP), the Racine Parental Choice Program (RPCP), or the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP). Student eligibility varies for each program but is generally determined by a combination of residency status, income level, and age.

Participating schools receive financial aid from the state for each eligible student on behalf of that student's parent or guardian.
