The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) periodically reviews student data that has been submitted by schools to make sure it is accurate. They do this by taking two "Data Snapshots" throughout the school year: the "Student" Snapshot and the "Demographic" Snapshot.

During the "Student" Snapshot, which generally takes place in early December, the DPI is primarily interested in attendance for the previous school year, current enrollment levels, and other student data.

During the "Demographic" Snapshot, which generally takes place towards the end of the school year, the DPI is primarily interested in demographic information such as race/ethnicity, gender, and economic status.
